SPACE held an educational Individualized Educational Program (IEP) workshop series designed to help parents advocate for themselves and their children when applying for an IEP.
An IEP stands for Individualized Education Program. It is a legal document developed for students who have been identified with a disability that affects their academic performance. The IEP is developed by a team, including the student’s parents/guardians, teachers, school psychologists, and other specialists as needed. The IEP outlines the student’s strengths and weaknesses, sets academic goals, and identifies any necessary accommodations or modifications that will help the student succeed in the classroom. The IEP is tailored to the specific needs of the student and is reviewed and updated annually to ensure it remains appropriate and effective. The IEP is an important tool for ensuring that students with disabilities have equal access to educational opportunities and can reach their full potential in school.
